A Letter to all Toxic Fans in the Gaming Community
This Really needs to stop before it’s too late.
Lately, especially since Sony posted the Road to PS5 video on their YouTube channel, Sony fans or fanboys have been worse than ever. Fanboys and fangirls have been around as long as the console wars have been a thing, but since the end of the PS2 era, it seems to have jumped to the next level. It’s gotten even more horrendous during the PS4 generation and it needs to stop.
As long as I can remember, gamers have been arguing about which console was better. “Super Nintendo is better!“, “No, the Genesis is better! Sega does what Nintendon’t!” These things were said throughout the halls of every school and playground. As we’ve aged, it became, “Xbox sucks!” or “GameCube is for kids! It’s a toy with a handle!” Eventually, it started just becoming something hardcore multi-platform gamers would just laugh at and shrug off. But in 2020, things are quite different.
Social media and the internet reign supreme. Everyone has a voice (even if they don’t deserve it) these days. Now, with the world in the state that it’s in and much of the world’s people is self-quarantine, everyone seems to be posting whatever they feel like on these social platforms without taking into consideration anyone else. Facebook groups, Twitter feeds and Instagram accounts based solely on bashing another video game console or platform. It’s disgusting. Things like these feeds and people that voice toxic opinions like this are the main reason that gamers and the gaming community still have such a horrible reputation. Now, it’s even gotten to the point that going on the official Xbox twitter (an account that I love and enjoy following) is being bombarded with hate from the PS fanboys. This is uncalled for. If you don’t like something, don’t follow it, don’t comment, don’t look at it. The people who love what they love should be allowed to love it in piece. This applies for everything, not just video games. Don’t shove what you feel or think in others faces just because they think differently. This is a notorious act done overwhelming by these fanboys and girls, most of them being of the PlayStation persuasion. You’ll be hard pressed to find a Nintendo or Xbox fan doing this. It seems it’s just not in their natures. Yes, I’m sure there are a few out there, but they are definitely not as vocal or nearly as hurtful.
This needs to stop. For the gaming industry and the world community of gamers to grow as a people and to grow as a respected group, this toxic behavior needs to end and it needs to end now! The world has more important and pressing issues than to have to deal with insensitive and toxic fans.
Remember gamers, we are a strong community and a vocal community. Let’s use this power for good. Like Microsoft and Nintendo showed off in that unforgettable Minecraft advertisement, “Better Together.”
I made a video on this subject for the YouTube channel if you’d like to watch it too, the video is below.
Take care of yourselves and each other. Be Legendary. Thanks again.
